General Questions

1.   What are the office hours of Area XV MCHA?
Monday – Friday  8 am – noon and 1 pm – 4:30 pm
Closed Saturday, Sunday, Holidays

2.   Where are you located?
417 North College, Agency, Iowa

3.   Is there a mail drop to use after hours?

Yes, there is a locked drop box at the main door that can be used to deliver documents before/after hours.  Be sure to have the tenant/applicant name on all papers.

4.   How long does it take to process an application?

Once an applicant’s name reaches the top of the list, verifications are mailed to the applicant.  A response is required.  To speed up the time, the applicant may take the verifications around, have them completed and return them to the office.  If the Top of the List letter comes back to our office as NON DELIVERABLE your name will be dropped from all wait lists at this agency.  It is important to keep your mailing address currant.

Public Housing

1.   How long is the waiting list?

It depends on the town, if there are any vacancies and how many bedrooms are in the vacancy.

2.   What about References?

Three references are required for all Public Housing applicants.  The references cannot be related to applicant.  Former landlord references are preferred, however, personal references may be substituted if, and only if, landlord references are not available.

3.   How many are ahead of me on the waiting list?

Call or send an email request to this office.  An email response will be made in approximately 24 hrs.

4.   Can I have pets in Public Housing?

5.   Do the Public Housing units have washer and dryer hook up?

Most do, a few do not.

Section 8 Vouchers

1.    Where am I on the waiting list?

Call or send an email to this office.  An email response will be made in approximately 24 hours

2.    How do I know when to start looking for a unit?

Detailed information is available at the Briefing when a Voucher is provided.  Occupancy of a unit prior to receiving the voucher will not be subsidized.

3.    What type of unit qualifies?

A Single family home, Mobile home, Apartment, Row house, duplex as long as the unit passes Housing Quality Standards inspection.

4.    When are inspections done?

Normally on Tues and Thurs.  Due to the number of inspections and area covered specific times cannot be arranged.

5.   Can a unit be inspected at a landlord’s request prior to a Section 8 Voucher holder requesting the unit?

No.  We do not have the personnel/time to inspection units prior to a request by a Voucher holder.
